A Novel Celebration for Robert Shaw
A Novel Celebration for Robert Shaw – The Book of Quint
In 1927, legendary actor Robert Shaw was born in Westhoughton and would become one of Great Britain’s most prized actors. Ninety-six years later, a novel inspired by Robert Shaw’s performance as Quint in Jaws (1975) will arrive in Westhoughton, adding to the legacy of the great actor.
The novel tells the backstory of Quint, from surviving the sinking of the USS Indianapolis tragedy to his arrival on Amity Island and the rise of the legendary vessel, Orca. As The Book of Quint seeks publication in the UK, the novel is currently in development for a big-screen adaptation with the William Pettit Agency in the United States. A world-wide release of the book is expected later in 2023.
Author, Ryan Dacko, host of the Jaws Obsession podcast, will be visiting the UK to deliver some of the last remaining hardcover books from the limited printing of The Book of Quint. Only 300 books were made after a successful Indiegogo crowd-sourced campaign held in 2022. The Book of Quint will now be officially available at the Westhoughton Library in Bolton.
All are invited to a special meeting on July 1st, 2023, at The Robert Shaw Pub (34–40 Market Street, Westhoughton, Greater Manchester, BL5 3AN) from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm where the legacy of Robert Shaw will be celebrated. Author Ryan Dacko will be on hand to meet UK listeners of The Jaws Obsession, and UK Jaws fans as well as present The Book of Quint to Westhoughton.
An introduction by the author, followed by a special reading from the Book of Quint. A short question and answer with readers and fans of Robert Shaw. Three books will be raffled off to those who attend. Proceeds from the raffle will go to shark research and conservation charity based in the UK.
